Rotary Shares team of the Rotary Club of Kalibo wheelchairs turned-over

No storm or flood that can stop the Rotary Shares team of the Rotary Club of Kalibo, led by Pres. More Morier in doing good deeds for the community. The continuing project of the club, thru its Wheelchair Committee headed by PE Megs Lunn as chairman (RY 07-08), and in partnership with PAL FOUNDATION and the Philippine Airlines, turned-over two wheelchairs to two poor and ailing patients today.

Mrs. Leonora Dela Rosa Ramos, 81 years old from Bliss Site, Kalibo (with heart ailment) and Mr. Romeo Aguarino (with serious damaged on his pelvic bones) 63 years old of Poblacion, Numancia, Aklan are the two latest beneficiaries of wheelchairs.

The project was conceived thru then Past District Nanette Garcia (RY 2004-05) when she donated each club with 10 brand new wheelchairs from the District in California. Past President Panski Rebuelta (RY 2005-06) and IPP Gus Solmirano (RY 2006-07) approved then that we adopt the project as continuing community project. The Chairman then for two consecutive years was PP Botoy Villorente, until later was handed to PE Megs Lunn.

PE Megs Lunn initiated to sustain the project by looking into for more donors from private entity like the PAL FOUNDATION and a anonymous philanthropist from Manila, not to mention some helping hand from our sister club RC GMA Cavite thru Wheelchair Foundation as their partner. Ms. Menchu Sarmiento of PAL FOUNDATION offered her full hearted support to the cause and at present time, she has been instrumental in fulfilling the Wheelchair committee's goal of donating wheelchairs to poor but deserving old age patients, and some for handicapped kids, too.

Furthermore, to sustain the project, the committee has an agreement form between the club and the patient or patient's representative/family, that if the wheelchair will no longer be needed by the patient, the said wheelchair can be pass to the next patient, who in turn will use it and take good care of it and so on....At present time, there are about 17 patients beneficiaries already.

Applicants passed DSWD study, Doctor's Referral, Picture/s and RC Kalibo application form to the wheelchair committee and the Board in order to assist its needs and qualify for the said cause.

Thank you to our donors and support group. May God bless you all! Rotary Shares team continues its advocacy in making miracles for the poor. MABUHAY kayong lahat!

Note:  Mrs. Leonora was taken to the nearest chapel (katabi lang ang bahay ng chapel, the same with the house of Mr. Romeo, we were cautious not to fell because both the house are really dilapidated and made of bamboo and nipa) for the turn over while what you see as nipa hut is the house of Mr. Romeo Aguarin. In fact, Pres. More slipped from the stairs of Mr. Romeo while he was going down after we brought the wheelchair in his room…unfortunately, he can’t sit in the wheelchair yet because the legs was hurting when we came…one of this days when it is not raining, perhaps I can take a picture of him sitting on the wheelchair. Thanks once again for your help.
