International Coastal Clean Up Day

September 15, 2007 - The Rotary Club of Boracay joins the world in the celebration of the International Coastal Clean Up Day.  Being a tourist destination, it is of utmost importance and great concern that the coastlines of the island are kept pristine.  When you get to the island, you will feel something profound as you see the most breath taking sites, its cystalline blue waters, abound with numerous caves and coves.

The group decided to concentrate their efforts in the Bolabog Beach, located on the east coast of the island, where most of the wind sports occur, since most of the groups will clean the West Coast or the famous Long White Beach.  Meeting up early, armed with gloves and garbage bags, this group of environmental  warriors walk down the length of the Bolabog Beach collecting over ten bags of candy wrappers, soda cans, plastic bags, cigarette butts and condoms and diapers.  Along the way, they encourage onlookers to participate in the efforts to keep the beach clean.  There is still much to be done, as it will take more than one day of cleaning to ensure that the beauty of our coast lines are maintained.  But  each step in the right direction brings us closer to our goal of achieving a cleaner world.
