Consolidation
of Districts 3850 and 3870
Dear Fellow Rotary Leaders of
Districts 3850 & 3870 :
Greetings! In response to your request during our recently-concluded
Multi-District Foundation Seminar / District Membership Seminar-Workshop
held in Cebu last Saturday, I am reprinting the decision taken by the RI
Board during its February 2007 Board meeting on the above topic, as
follows:
MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 2007 RI BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
177. Districts 3850 and 3870 (The Philippines)
Statement: The District Committee noted that District 3870 was unlikely to
achieve significant membership growth in the near future and recommended
the district consolidate with neighboring District 3850, with which it had
originally been joined.
DECISION: The Board
1 requests the governor and governor-elect of District 3870 to meet with
the leadership of District 3850 to develop a plan by 1 August 2007 to
merge these two districts, effective 1 July 2008, for consideration by the
Board at its November 2007 meeting;
2 advises the leadership in District 3850 of the Boardâ??s concern over
its decreasing membership, and offers support to the clubs in the district
in accepting a consolidation plan with District 3870.
In view of the above decision, pending the final action to be taken by the
RI Board, I firmly believe that Districts 3850 and 3870 must seriously
address the problem of membership during this RY 2007-08.
1) District 3850 should aim to reach at least 1,500 Rotarians and 55 Clubs
by 31 December 2007.
2) District 3870 should aim to reach at least 1,000-1,200 Rotarians and 40
Clubs by 31 December 2007.
I know that our 2 Districts do not want to be consolidated back into our
original District, considering the wide area to be covered by the District
Governor (13 provinces in D-3850 and 7 provinces in D-3870). Thus, let's
work on our membership during this 1st Semester of RY 2007-08 so that the
RI Board may reconsider its decision to consolidate our 2 Districts. Best
regards.
