6th Pcrg Conference Successfully Held

Our District hosted the 6th Philippine Conference on Rotary Concerns, which was successfully held in Bacolod City last 19-20 January 2007, with RI Director Ian Riseley (RC Sandringham, Victoria, D-9810, Australia) and his spouse / PP Juliet as the guests of honor. RI Dir. Ian keynoted the Conference proper last 20 January at Business Inn, providing updates on the latest RI Board decisions and developments affecting Rotary. It was their first visit to our country, with our District acting as host. Dir. Ian serves as RI Director for RY 2006-2008, after the term of Dir. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante expired last 30 June 2006.

The Plenary Session was held last 20 January at Business Inn, which was attended by over 80 PDGs, Rotarians and spouses coming from nine (9) Philippine Districts. Aside from RI Dir. IAN, other speakers included RI Past Dir. Rafael “Paing” Hechanova (Makati, D-3830), “Development of Rotary Spirit”; PCRG Chair / PDG Rodolfo “Rudy” Estrellado (Pasay, D-3810), “The State of our PCRG ”; RRFC / PDG Gil Divinagracia (Balintawak, D-3780), “Updates on The Rotary Foundation”; RRIMC / PDG Dave Villanueva (Bacolod South, D-3850), “Updates on Membership – Philippines”; PDG Melito “Bimbo” Salazar (Diliman, D-3780), “Rotary Leadership Institute”; and PDG Benigno “Benny” Ricafort (Pasig South, D-3800), “Vocational Service”.

The two Group Discussion Sessions in the afternoon proved to be interesting topics: “Redistricting of Visayas and Mindanao Districts (3850 / 3860 / 3870)”, with PDG Jose Ma. Luis “Toto” Cupin (Cebu West, D-3860) as Discussion Leader; and “Important Issues in 2007 Council on Legislation”, with PDG Ramiro “Chick” Garcia (Bacolod North, D-3850) as Discussion Leader), which generated a lot of discussion. PCRG dignitaries who attended the seminar included Dist. Gov. Teotimo “Onye” Reyes (D-3820), PCRG Chair-Elect / PDG Francisco “Jun” Aniag (D-3770), PCRG Immed. Past Chair Guiller Tumangan (D- 3830), PCRG Past Chair Mark Go (D-3790) and DGN Josie Ang (D-3810).

A welcome fellowship dinner was given at Bar 21 last 19 January, with the golf enthusiasts playing a “no-score” friendly round of golf at the Negros Occ. (Marapara) Golf and Country Club. The farewell dinner was held at Taverna of the Pagcor-Casino Hotel in the evening of 20 January, through the courtesy of Pagcor Pres. / Dist. Gov. Rafael “Butch” Francisco (Makati Central, D-3830). Dist. Gov. Ramon “Toto” Cua Locsin served as the Conference Host while PDG Dave Villanueva was the Conference Organizing Committee Chair.
