New
Rotaract & Interact Clubs
In observance of the New Generations Month this September, new Rotaract
and Interact Clubs were formed by several clubs in the District. Existing
Rotaract and Interact Clubs also undertook or launched their respective
projects. In addition, the District was well represented in the recently
concluded 3rd Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference held last August
31 to September 3, 2006, in Tagaytay.

Tri-District TRF Seminar Cancelled
The Tri-District TRF Seminar of Districts 3850, 3860 and 3870 originally
scheduled for November 17-19, 2006 at the Sarabia Manor and Convention
Center has been cancelled because of conflicting schedules and various
projects and commitments of the different clubs in the three districts.
The Tri-District leadership agreed to hold the seminar in abeyance becaue
they cannot find a date convenient to the three Districts.
TOWER Awards launched in Iloilo City
The Ten Outstanding Workers of the Republic (TOWER) Awards of the Rotary
Club of Manila had its Provincial launching last September 19, 2006 during
the Regular Meeting of the Rotary Club of Metro Iloilo together with
members of the Rotary Club of Manila, headed by their Vice President and
former DOLE Secretary, Bienvenido Laguesma and the President of the
Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Luis Sorolla.
The TOWER Awards seeks to recognize outstanding blue collar workers
nationwide. In order to make the search and screening more comprehensive,
RC Manila sought the partnership of different Rotary Clubs nationwide.
International Rotary Matched Clubs Invitational Golf Classic in Boracay
The
10th International Rotary Matched Clubs Invitational Golf Classic will be
held on March 1-2, 2007 at the Fairways and Bluewater Resort Golf and
Country Club, in Boracay. The annual golf tournament was started 9 years
ago with 5 Rotary Clubs: RC Makati, RC Cebu, RC Itako, RC Kota Kinabalu
and RC Kuala Lumpur Di Raja, to encourage fellowship among Rotarians who
are members of the original core clubs and their matched clubs. About 120
Rotarian golfers from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and
the Philippines are expected to participate in this annual golfing event
which will coincide with our District Conference on March 1 to 3. RC Itako,
Japan and RC Metro Iloilo will co-host this affair.

Iloilo City Celebrates New Generations Month with Boys & Girls WeekIn
order to help alleviate the ill effects of the Guimaras oil spill, the
Rotary Clubs of Metro Iloilo and Lapaz, in collaboration with the
Rotaractors of St. Pauls University, Volunteer Doctors from Iloilo Mission
Hospital and the ABS-CBN Foundation conducted a Medical Mission at Brgy.
San Roque last September 8, 2006.

City Celebrates New Generations Month with Boys & Girls Week
RC
Iloilo City started the Boys and Girls Week, with a Turn-Over and Oath
Taking Ceremonies at the Plaza Libertad, Iloilo City last September 25,
2006. Present during the ceremony were Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas
with District Governor and City Councilor Ramon “Toto” Cua Locsin, and the
Members of the Rotary Club of Iloilo City headed by Pres. Rebecca
Maravilla.

Lendry Certeza, PP Geoff Stammers, Sec. Markus Duenneisen, Rtn. Michael
Soden, PP Tong Somo, PP Winston Santos, PP Ray Gomez, PP Jhonny Young, PP

Rose Soden, Ann Eva Dueneisen, Ms. Candy Sosas, Ann Carmen Griño and the
members of the RC Iloilo City Rotaract Club.
Another Source of Pride for RC Metro Kalibo
The District is proud to have another Rotarian garnering a prestigious
award. RC Metro Kalibo’s President-Elect 2007-2008 Remelyn Recoter was
awarded as the ‘AFP RESERVIST OFFICER OF THE YEAR’ during the awarding
ceremony held at Camp Aguinaldo recently.

Rtn. Remie is a lieutenant colonel and
battalion commander of the 1st Aklan Ready Reserve Battalion. She is also
the government center director of the Agricultural Training Institute
Training Center, Region 6 of the Department of Agriculture.
Rtn. Remie is currently the Club’s Director of Community Service. Her
reservist group is very active in community work in Aklan and is an active
partner with RCMK in the community service projects. One of the recent
joint project are the MEDICAL / DENTAL / LEGAL MISSION held in Feliciano,
Balete, Aklan last September 10, 2006.
